Klein and Nichols identify that semantic memory is split into factual self-knowledge memory and self-trait memory ‘Although self-trait memory provides a critical sense of self, it is not sufficient for a sense of personal identity across time.’ It is through episodic memory (memories experienced at a particular point in time) that personal identity is predominantly based. Whereas this link is affirmed, it is questionable how profound. Memory is psychologically linked to personal identity.
